What is Preconception Counseling & Pregnancy Confirmation?
Preconception counseling is a proactive approach to preparing for a healthy pregnancy before conception occurs. During these visits, our team evaluates your overall health, medical history, lifestyle, medications, and any factors that could affect fertility or pregnancy. We work with you to optimize your health and answer your questions before you begin trying to conceive.
If you’ve been having difficulty becoming pregnant, we also provide an initial infertility evaluation and workup to identify potential concerns. After completing your evaluation, our team will coordinate referrals to trusted fertility specialists when advanced reproductive care is needed.
For women who have recently received a positive pregnancy test, we offer pregnancy confirmation through ultrasound to verify an early intrauterine pregnancy, estimate gestational age, and provide reassurance before transitioning your care to a trusted obstetric provider for ongoing prenatal care.
How Preconception Counseling & Pregnancy Confirmation Works
What happens during a preconception counseling appointment?
Your visit begins with a comprehensive discussion about your medical history, menstrual cycles, medications, family history, lifestyle, and pregnancy goals. Our team will identify opportunities to optimize your health before conception and answer any questions you may have.
What if I've been struggling to become pregnant?
Our team can perform an initial infertility evaluation, which may include reviewing your medical history, discussing ovulation and menstrual patterns, ordering appropriate laboratory testing, and identifying possible factors affecting fertility. If specialized treatment is needed, we’ll coordinate a referral to a trusted fertility specialist.
What should I bring to my appointment?
If available, bring a list of your medications and supplements, your medical history, information about your menstrual cycles, previous pregnancies, and any fertility or pregnancy-related questions you’d like to discuss. Our team will take the time to answer your questions and help you understand your next steps.
What happens during a pregnancy confirmation visit?
If you’ve recently had a positive pregnancy test, our team will perform an ultrasound to confirm the pregnancy, verify that it is developing within the uterus, and estimate how far along you are. We’ll also discuss your next steps and answer your early pregnancy questions.
What does a pregnancy confirmation ultrasound show?
An early pregnancy ultrasound confirms that the pregnancy is located within the uterus, evaluates early fetal development, and helps estimate your due date based on gestational age.
Will I continue my pregnancy care at Her Health Gynecology?
After your pregnancy has been confirmed, our team will help coordinate your transition to a trusted obstetric provider so you can begin comprehensive prenatal care and continue receiving the support you need throughout your pregnancy.
What happens after my appointment?
Depending on your visit, our team may recommend lifestyle modifications, prenatal vitamins, additional testing, follow-up appointments, or referrals to fertility or obstetric specialists to ensure you receive the most appropriate care.
